b a ckground: babesiosis is a haemoparasitic disease of domestic and wild animals caused by species of the genus bab esia . bab esia bigemina , b . bovis and b . divergens are known to be pathogenic in cattle. the disease is transmit- ted during blood feeding by infected ticks and is the most economically important tick-borne disease in tropical and subtropical areas. ixodid ticks are vectors in the transmission of babesiosis. the classic presentation is a febrile syn- drome with apparent anemia and hemoglobinuria. this study was carried out to determine species of bovine bab esia spp. vector ticks collected from naturally occurring bovine babesiosis in west and north-west of iran. m e t hods: two hundred and eleven ticks were collected from 113 cattle and ticks' species were identified using the standard taxonomic keys. after dna extraction from salivary glands of each tick, the presence of babesia spp. in- fection in ticks was examined by pcr method using primers derived from the gene encoding rhoptry protein. results: rh ipicephalus sanguineus and r . bursa ticks were infected with bovine babesia spp. conclusion: rh ipicephalus spp. may play a major role in the transmission of infection of bovine babesia spp. in west and north-west of iran.

full textA molecular study on Babesia spp. in cattle and ticks in West-Azerbaijan province, Iran
A total number of 450 blood samples were collected from 45 different randomly selected cattle herds. Light microscopic examination of blood smears revealed Babesia spp. infection in 4.2%, while 8.9% of blood samples were positive using PCR. Upon multiplex-PCR (mPCR), B. bigemina and B. bovis infections were detected in 37/40 (92.5%) and 3/40 (7.5%) samples, respective...

Babesiosis is an important tickborne disease in the sheep of Iran. OBJECTIVES: A molecular study was carried out in North Khorasan province, Iran in 2010-2011, designed to identify Babesia spp. infection of both sheep and ticks. METHODS: Ninety sheep from different flocks were clinically examined and blood samples were collected with ixodid ticks . The collected ticks were separated into 82 ti...
full textMolecular and Microscopic Detection of Theileria spp. among Cattle and Buffaloes in West Azarbaijan, Iran
Bovine theileriosis is an important tick-borne disease caused by intraerythrocytic parasites from genus Theileria. This study sought to detect the theileriosis among cattle and buffaloes using molecular and microscopic tests in West Azerbaijan, Iran. For this purpose, 484 blood samples from 193 cattle and 291 buffaloes were collected during March to July 2014. The breed, gender, age, and habita...
